Campfires and Smores

Campfires and Smores – the two go hand-in-hand don’t you think? The dark, star-filled sky twinkles overhead. The flames crackle and hiss as they lick at the slightly damp firewood that we just collected. The smell of the smoke from the fire wafts over those sitting around the fire. As the fire dies down, Daddy stirs the coals. Munchkin grins as she knows what’s coming when the coals are ready. Mommy heads to get the marshmellows, chocolate, gluten free graham crackers, and roasting sticks. The embers glow and a hint of excitement fills Munchkin’s eyes. It’s time for smores. We…

A more relaxing week…

Last week, we had a crazy busy week due to daytime Vacation Bible School on base. Munchkin had a wonderful time even with the few bumps she encountered along the way. The week ended with a final closing ceremony where the kids recited their verses and sang the songs that they had learned during the week. The handful of kids who learned all of their verses for the week received a can of root beer at the pizza party. For some, this may not seem like much, but for my kiddo, she thought it was great. Mrs. White over at Legacy of Home does a weekly front porch visit. I love the idea as it starts the week on a positive note, but I tend to forget about it until it’s too late. Reading Together

While D was deployed last time, Munchkin and I found ourselves reading many books together. I would real out loud to her while she colored, worked on puzzles, rested… We would read short books and long books. Some books took several days of almost non-stop reading to finish. Those were the types of books that we just didn’t want to put down because we wanted to know what happened next. After Daddy came home, we stuck mainly with short books that didn’t involve long periods of reading. We had so much going on that reading the longer books fell on…
