Review: Simply Canning

Posted in Homemaking, and Reviews

It’s that time of year again when fruits and veggies are growing like crazy.  Farmer’s Markets are open (in most parts of the country – not here).  The food co-op baskets are usually filled with fresh produce.  The prices for produce start to come down as the supply goes up.  Now, is the time to stock up on your favorite fruits and veggies. It seems like the idea of preserving food had gone away for some time.  People just weren’t all that interested in taking the time to prepare the food themselves – after all, they could just grab what…

Our Homeschool Photography Class

Project 365 – #151 As most of you know, I am participating in the Mommytography 365 Project this year.  It’s really been a fun, eye-opening experience for me.  Because of this project, Munchkin and I decided that we wanted to learn more about photography this year. Since I wanted this class to be a homeschool elective for Munchkin, I went to work seeing what resources were readily available for us.  I wanted something that was in depth, but not cumbersome.  We needed to learn about the camera and digital photography, but we weren’t trying to become professional photographers. Did you know that you can lose and/or maintain weight while loving food?  It’s all about putting your love of food in the right perspective.  In Love Food and Live Well, Chantel Hobbs teaches readers that food is not evil.  She talks about how losing weight does not mean horrible, tasteless food.  It also does not mean depriving yourself of your favorite foods.  Instead, it’s about eating right 80 percent of the time and splurging 20 percent of the time. Chantel Hobbs knows what she is talking about when it comes to losing weight and eating great.  She lost 200…

The hills are alive with the sound of music….  In Yesterday, Today, and Forever, Maria von Trapp picks up where the Sound of Music left off.  We get to follow Maria and her family from Austria all the way to America.  She talks about how their faith got them through all of the hardships and ups and downs of their lives. I enjoyed how Maria made the life of Christ come alive by relating their real life travels to the life of Christ.  Maria shares her heart in this book.  It’s sure to inspire and encourage as you read about…

Review: Seek and Find Bible

Posted in Reviews

I admit when I first received this Bible to review I was thinking that it was just another kids Bible. You know – the ones that have been simplified and don’t contain the complete scripture.  Boy was I wrong.  The Seek and Find Bible is really cool!  It contains the complete Bible text using the Eastern Standard Version (ESV), but it also contains Bible stories and lovely illustrations. The Bible stories help summarize the scripture.  At the end of the Bible story, the actual scripture passage is given, so they can read the full Biblical account.  It also highlights a…
