Cave Creek Regional Park Wildlife

Posted in Family, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

One of the things that Munchkin wanted to do for her birthday was go to the zoo or the aquarium. To do this, we could either head over to the San Diego area or over to the Phoenix area. We wanted to take a long weekend trip instead of just heading over for the day. Because we really enjoy camping at Cave Creek Regional Campground, we chose to head over to the Phoenix area from Thursday to Sunday. The trip had a bit of a rocky start as I got hit with a migraine on Wednesday evening after we finished…

Evening Rodeo

Project 365 – #225 As you can see, we really were quite busy (in a fun way) on our vacation with our family.  While we were in Cave Creek, we heard that they had bull riding twice a week in the evenings, so one night, we decided to head on over and check it out.  I ended up with tons of pictures as I tried out different features on my camera, but I’ll spare you the gazillion pictures.  **grin**   It didn’t cost anything to get in to watch the cowboys ride.  They did offer various drinks as well as a…

Out of Africa Wildlife Park

Project 365 – #224 One of our fun adventures while our family was visiting was going to the Out of Africa Wildlife Park.  It’s a privately owned and operated wildlife area that offers safari tours, animal exhibits, and wildlife shows.  As you can probably tell by the name, most of the animals are native to Africa, so our natural desert environment suits them nicely.  We were pleased to learn that they offer military discounts for general admission.  In addition to the safari, they have premium shows, but we decided not to do those – well, except for the tiger feeding.…

How to Scare Grandma…

Posted in Family, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

Project 365 – #223 How do you scare Grandma?  You round up the grand children, you take them to the Grand Canyon, and you allow them to explore just a bit.  Then, you make sure to take some great pictures near the edge of the Canyon.  Needless to say, poor Grandma had several near heart attacks during our trip to the Grand Canyon. I have to admit that given D’s limited mobility and difficulty with balance and walking at that point in time, I was a bit more concerned with him than I was about the girls.  The girls were…

Grand Canyon: A Moment of Rest

Posted in Family, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

Project 365 – #217 While everyone else in our crew hiked down just a little into the Grand Canyon, D found some rocks on which to rest.  Recovering from back surgery is no fun when you’re an active guy like him, but he was able to manage pretty well over the 2 weeks.  The girls decided they’d take a little rest with him.  Of course, there was a little messy around at the same time they were resting. **grin**
