Exploring Bulldog Canyon Day 1

Posted in Family, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

Since my Dad and Stepmom are here visiting, we thought it would be fun to head out exploring with our RZR and D’s dirt bike. Our RZR only seats 2 people, so we found a place that rented RZRs. Grandpa and Munchkin were in one RZR (the rental) while I drove Grandma in my RZR. D took the lead which, as usual, lead to some crazy times on the trails, but we had a blast. Here are some of the sights from today’s trip to Bulldog Canyon. Project 365 – #026 This area is stunning. We’ll be heading out for…

El Camino Del Diablo

On Saturday, D was itching to head out off-roading with his truck.  It had been some time since we’ve been out as his truck had been down due to needed repairs.  Before we left on vacation, he was able to complete the repairs on his truck, but we didn’t have time to test out the truck prior to leaving. It was a scorching hot day, so we made sure that we had enough water.  While we didn’t plan on doing any/much hiking, we always go prepared in case something comes up.  You don’t want to be stuck out in the…

Field Trip: Quartermaster Depot

Posted in Family, Homeschooling, and Outdoor Adventures

Travel back in time with me to 1864… the area is bustling with military life as the U.S. Army prepares to travel all over the west. The Quartermaster Depot (QMD), a significant place in the history of the Arizona territory, was used to store and distribute supplies for all the military posts in Arizona, some in Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, and Texas.

Military Working Dogs Field Trip

Today, our base homeschool group was treated to a fabulous K-9 demonstration. The field trip began with the sound of sirens. A police vehicle was chasing down a pick-up that wouldn’t stop. The man got out of the truck and wouldn’t listen to the officer… We learned a bit more about the working dogs and their jobs including a brief history about military working dogs and their service to our country.  Did you know that these dogs are awarded medals just like their human military counterparts?  They can receive the purple heart if they are wounded in combat. We were…

Field Trip: Saihati Camel Farm

Posted in Homeschooling

We enjoy getting to know a new area by going exploring. When we read that we would be able to go to a working camel farm, Munchkin was pretty excited. The only problem was that we had to wait until October as they are closed to the public during the summer months. This weekend, the wait was finally over as the camel farm was open. The Saihati Camel Farm specializes in the breeding of Arabian (or one humped) camels. They also have many other exotic animals that they care for on the farm. We decided to just go on a…
