Mommy & Me Aprons

Posted in Family, and Thrifty Ideas

After being inspired by all the great aprons that I have been seeing on other blogs, I decided to try my hands at matching aprons for my daughter and I. I didn’t want to spend much money (or time), so I thought about different options that I had. I decided that I’d head over to the thrift store and see what jumpers they had. I found a very cute strawberry print jumper, and it was less than $1. I knew that with some work, I could create a jumper for both my daughter and I out of this. Yes! At…

Anti-Procrastination Challenge: Bookcase Organization

Posted in Homemaking

Over at The Sparrows Nest they are having anti-procrastination week. Well, I’m a little late on getting started, but since I’m feeling a little better today, I thought I would try to take part in the challenge. I have been putting off organizing the bookshelves. Now, for most people this wouldn’t be a big deal, but since we homeschool, we tend to have a lot of books. We have purged a lot of books in preparation for the upcoming move, but I still have a huge, unorganized mess. So, that is what I’m taking on today. Here are the before…

DIY Storage Containers from Recycled Materials

Posted in Homemaking, and Thrifty Ideas

My daughter decided that she needed some containers to store her things in. I didn’t want to spend any money, so I went to see what I had around the house. I found several oatmeal containers. While I knew that she’d be ok with plain storage containers, I thought it would be fun to create something a little fancier and fun. After locating some recycled wrapping paper, I cut circles out of the wrapping paper for the lids and rectangle strips to wrap the containers. I used double-sided tape to secure the wrapping paper around the storage container and to…

Why do we homeschool?

Posted in Family, and Homeschooling

Why do we Homeschool? This is a question that I often hear followed quickly by their story about someone that they know who homeschools. Yes, in our area, homeschooling is very popular. We’re not considered too odd around here which is nice. We always have tons of activities in which we can be involved. People wonder how our daughter, an only child, can possibly be socialized properly. Yet, they’re always commenting on how well behaved she is. I have always been drawn towards homeschooling our daughter, but didn’t actively pursue the idea until it was time for her to enter…

Keeping House while Sick

Posted in Family

I’m still trying to figure out how to keep a handle on the housework when I’m feeling so lousy. Since D is home in the evenings now, it’s a bit easier as he’s able to help out. But, it’s still my job to take care of the house, and I prefer to be able to allow him to rest in the evenings. There are several things involved with maintaining the house: clutter control, actual cleaning, laundry & dishes, and meals. We also have school to think about since we’re homeschooling. DinnerThankfully, I have previously cooked meals in the freezer that…
