Interesting Conversations

Posted in Family, and Thoughts

Munchkin was having a good time playing in the dirt. So much fun, that honestly, she reminded me of these elephants rolling around in the dirt and throwing it up in the air. Needless to say, she was covered in dirt when this conversation took place. Me: “Would you like to help me plant these veggies?” Munchkin: “Sure, but would you move the dirt, so I can just set them in. Then you can put the dirt over them?” Me: “Why?” Munchkin: “Because I don’t want to get dirty.” A few days earlier, this conversation took place. Munchkin: “Mommy, do…

In Honor of My Mom

Posted in Thoughts

This month, I’m remembering the passing of my mom 10 years ago. It’s hard to believe 10 years have passed since I said that last “I love you” and “goodbye”. It was a hard time, but also a happy time as a little over a month later, I said “I do” to my husband (who my mom adored). A little over two months later, my sister graduated from high school. My mom tried to hold on for these celebrations, but it was time to say goodbye. My daughter never got to meet her grandma, but she asks about her often.…

Thankful Thursday: Simplicity

Posted in Family

These last few weeks (has it been almost a month?) we’ve lived very simply with just the basics. We’ve had very few clothes, minimal “creature comforts”, no washer/dryer, no beds except for inflatable mattresses… Yet, as I sit here thinking about all of that, I realize that we’ve lived quite comfortably (minus the beds & washer/dryer). I’ve enjoyed living simply without lots of things to have to tidy up or clean. It’s made me realize that maybe we need to simplify things a bit. This week as we’re getting ready to be reunited as a family (Monday) and get our…

Munchkin Garden

It was still a beautiful day today even though the temps had dropped back down to the 60s. We worked on the garden some more. I moved the seating area that I had put down by the water over by the shed by munchkin’s garden. You can see munchkin’s garden next to the shed in the background. The 2 end tables I picked up today for free. They were originally black and gold. I spray painted them white to match the other pieces. (We still need to finish painting the benches. We want them to be all white.) Here’s munchkin…

Works for Me Wednesday: Kids Garden

Posted in Family, and Homemaking

This year, we’re really trying to grow our own fruits and veggies. While we haven’t had much success in years past, we’re hoping that square foot gardening/container gardening will yield us some crops. My daughter loves to help with gardening, but the large tools are too big for her. Today, I found real, kid size gardening tools. She was in heaven and had to test them out as soon as we arrived home. Now, the reason for our outing was to allow her to pick out the plants for her very own garden. All too often we forget that kids…
