This year, we’re really trying to grow our own fruits and veggies. While we haven’t had much success in years past, we’re hoping that square foot gardening/container gardening will yield us some crops.
My daughter loves to help with gardening, but the large tools are too big for her. Today, I found real, kid size gardening tools. She was in heaven and had to test them out as soon as we arrived home.
Now, the reason for our outing was to allow her to pick out the plants for her very own garden. All too often we forget that kids love to have something of their own. So, munchkin and I picked out several different herbs and a couple of tomato plants for her 2 containers.
I filled in the dirt and she planted each plant with care. She then watered all her plants carefully. She’s thrilled to have her very own garden to care for this year.
Kid size garden tools and a kids garden works for me! To see what is working for other people, head on over to Rocks in My Dryer.
I gave up gardening after I killed the zuchini…. but maybe we’ll try a few flowers this year. Daughter loves to garden but she get’s so upset when we kill everything.
INSPIRING!!!! it has long been my dreamto have a garden….last year the weeds won…but after reading your post — i will try again. 🙂
Our garden didn’t do well last year — so we are going to try this, this year. We go pick up boards from a freecycler here on Thursday evening, so the cost is minimum! I’m glad you shared it because if I hadn’t accidentally found out about it — this is a great post and great for kids and even seniors too.
Amen! I talked a little bit about this same subject on my WFMW. It’s a great outlet for kids! Good luck with the veggies!
Great tip! I’m planning to do some container gardening with my little one this spring. I will keep this one in mind.
Our well cap sticks out about 4 feet from our flower bed, so it is incorporated into that flower bed. Last year we had great fun letting Q pick flowers to hide, I mean compliment the well cap!
Good luck with the garden!
Thanks for posting this tip.

Oh, that is so cool, Heather. I totally agree…kids just love to help, but also feel responsible for a certain area. I hope that her little garden will grow well :).
