We’ve Got Orders – 29 Palms

Posted in Family, and Military Life

Last month, we were shocked when we learned that D’s orders were already in the system. Ironically, it happened on his birthday, so that was pretty cool. More often then not, we end up not having too much lead time before we have to move, so this was a pleasant surprise. Because it’s not too far away from here, we will be able to do some house hunting ahead of time which is a good thing since the wait time for base housing right now is 12-18 months. We’re only slated to be there for 24 months. lol! When we…

Off-Road Fun with Marine Families

Posted in Family, Military Life, and Outdoor Adventures

Last week, D decided it would be fun if we got together with some of the Marines (and their families/friends) that he works with and head out for some off-road fun. A couple of the Marines had not taken their vehicles off-road at all, so they were eager to test out the vehicles and their skills. On Saturday, we met up at in a parking lot, and the more experienced off-road guys helped the others check tire pressure and air down the tires as needed before we headed out. Because this was the first time out for some, a trail…

Stars Earn Stripes

Posted in Commercial Break, and Military Life

Throughout the Olympics, we’ve been seeing previews for the new reality show Stars Earn Stripes. We thought it might be interesting, but I honestly didn’t pay that much attention until I received a media release that talked about something that, in my opinion, should have really been played up in the advertising. While these stars who are being challenged to execute complicated missions inspired by real military exercises, they are also each competing for a cash prize during the challenges that will be donated to one of these charities that benefit military members and/or their families: MILITARY CHILD EDUCATION COALITION,…
