Free 3-part Writing Course

Posted in Announcements, Commercial Break, and Homeschooling

Munchkin and I have grown very fond of Mr. Jim Baumgardner, author of the Sarah book series.  He is a great writer and a very kind man. Did you know that he has his own blog?  I would recommend checking out his blog when you get a chance. When I heard that he was writing up a 3-part writing series for a friend’s blog, I knew that it would be a great asset to our homeschool.  Of course, I wanted to give you the opportunity to check it out as well. Part one of the Fundamentals of Writing series was…

Finding Balance

Posted in Family, Homeschooling, and Thoughts

This week, Munchkin will be wrapping up her current school year.  Homeschooling year around can make it difficult at times to really judge when one year ends and the next year begins.  This time, we’re using her main subjects as our guide.  If she completes all her work as planned this week, she’ll happily enjoy a week off from school next week. I’m using this current time to evaluate how I did as a teacher and mom over this past year.  I’m making a few adjustments in how I handle things, and I’m putting my expectations of Munchkin in writing.…

Random Thoughts

Posted in Family, Homeschooling, and Military Life

My mind is jumping all over the place today, so I figured I would just post one of my random thoughts posts instead of trying to sort out everything.  **grin**  I’ll also be posting random pictures from our camping trip within this crazy, random post. Soon, I’ll be embarking on my 2nd year with the TOS Crew.  You might have seen the new button that I created on my sidebar.  There are several things that will be different with my voyage this year, but I’ll write a little more about that later.  For now, I’m just getting everything ready and…

A Bittersweet Day

Posted in Homeschooling, and Military Life

Friday was a bittersweet day for Munchkin filled with both highs and lows…. Friday morning found us heading over to a Bead for Life party that our homeschool group was holding.  Bead for Life is an organization in Uganda that helps primarily impoverished woman to improve their lives.  They use recycled paper to make beautiful handcrafted beads.  These beads are made into necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.  They are also sold in packets, so others can use their handiwork to create their own beautiful bead creations. Our homeschool group did the curriculum that was available through Bead for Life.  (Munchkin did…

End of Year Testing 2010

Posted in Homeschooling

Today is Munchkin’s end of year testing.  While we are not required by Arizona state law to perform the testing, we have chosen to do it anyway.  I am able to administer the test at home, so we don’t have to go anywhere for the actual test.  Munchkin seriously dislikes taking standardized tests, but I feel it’s important for her to get use to the concept. Right now, we’re taking a lunch break, so Munchkin is outside eating lunch with her friend.  (It’s so nice to have fellow homeschoolers who live next door.)  It’s an absolutely beautiful day, so I…
