Gearing up for Thanksgiving

Posted in Family, Holidays, and Homemaking

Our Thanksgiving preparations actually begin way back in October.  You see, we decorate for harvest starting on October 1st.  When the 1st of November arrives, we start to add in some Thanksgiving specific decorations.  The beginning of November also means that we’ll be doing some sort of a thankful craft.  This year, we did the Gratitude Tree.  Last year, we did the Giving Thanks Turkey craft.  Whatever craft we do, the purpose is to remind us to remain thankful during the month. Going gluten free changed how I prepared our Thanksgiving meal.  For years, I used doctored up store products…

Thanksgiving Traditions Remembered

Food, Family, and Football As I was looking for the Pretty, Pretty Princess picture of big T, I had the opportunity to look over many pictures from the past.  It got me thinking about past Thanksgiving traditions. Growing up, Thanksgiving meant that we were heading to my grandparent’s house in PA.  That’s where my Dad’s side of the family got together each year at Thanksgiving.  We would eat a huge Thanksgiving meal, watch A Christmas Story (“You’ll shoot your eye out!”), watch some football, and play lots of card games. I thought this Celtic Thanksgiving song was beautiful and wanted to share it today as we get ready for Thanksgiving…

In this house, I have a nice gas stove/oven that works.  While it may not be as nice as the one at our last house, it keeps an even, consistent temperature in the oven and all of the burners work well. …

Saying Goodbye to a Furry Friend

Posted in Family, and Holidays

Today, my sister and my brother-in-law had to put down their family dog.  He was a larger than life black lab who loved to play and get into trouble.  We have very fond memories of him as he entered our lives shortly after Munchkin was born.  He and our puppy got along well, and they enjoyed playing together whenever we were able to visit (after we moved away). He was 11 1/2 years old, and he will be missed.  We are thankful for the time he was in ours lives.  Our “puppy” has been a bit down today.  It’s as…
