An Interesting Horseback Ride

Posted in Family, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

Project 365 – #214 Grandpa decided that he wanted to take us all horseback riding.  Munchkin has really, really wanted to go riding for some time, but it just never seemed to work out for various reasons.  Well, this trip, she got the opportunity to go riding while we were up visiting the Grand Canyon.  To say she was excited would be a major understatement.  We arrived at the stables with cloudy skies overhead, but we had high hopes for a great ride. We took some pictures and saddled up for the ride.  Unfortunately, my one niece was a little…

Campsite Bible Study

Project 365 – #212 The first week that we were out camping, we found ourselves alone at our campsite for our Sunday morning Bible study.  Even though the daytime temps were too hot to comfortably sit outside for extended periods of time, we were able to eat our breakfast and do our Bible study outside at the picnic table.  I’ve always enjoyed being out in nature while studying God’s word.  Since we are working our way through Genesis, it seemed rather fitting. As Munchkin and D finished their breakfast, I read the scripture passages that we were studying that day.…

Ocotilla Wells: Shell Reef

Posted in Family, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

Project 365 – #206 A shell reef in the middle of the desert?  How could this be?  Hmmm… maybe the world was covered completely by water at some point??? Munchkin scurried up the hill. I decided to follow her up to try to grab a picture or two. D stayed with puppy at the bottom.  Whew!  That was quite the climb up, and the climb down was quite the adventure on such a hot day.

Definitely the Road Less Traveled

Project 365 – #202 Remember that trail sign that I posted yesterday?  Well, we thought we were going down the easy way, but it turns out we were wrong.  Because D’s activities are soooo limited right now, I ended up doing a lot of hiking to scout out the trail ahead as well as spotting as we went through some crazy areas.  D enjoyed himself, but he would have been much happier to go through this particular area at a time when he was feeling 100%.  He felt a bit guilty that I was doing so much scouting and spotting…

Animals of the Desert

Posted in Family, Outdoor Adventures, and Photography

Project 365 – #200 We’ve lived here over 2 years now, and we’ve seen some wildlife here and there during our exploration.  Most often, very little is seen while we’re out exploring.  Over the 4th of July, we were blessed with being able to see an abundant number of animals and birds while we were out driving.  We saw 2 different herds of big horn sheep, multiple herds of wild burros, jack rabbits, bunnies, desert fox, chipmunks, lizards, various birds including an owl, and various other little critters.  We were amazed to say the least.  I was able to capture…
