Frugal Friday: Pet Bedding

Posted in Thrifty Ideas

Having pets is not frugal by any means. So, for those of us that love animals, we have to come up with ways to make pet ownership a bit less expensive. Pet bedding can get very expensive — especially when you have to change it at least once a week. I purchased a paper shredder several years ago and shred all the junk mail that comes in the mail. Instead of just getting rid of the shreds, I use them in the guinea pig cage. First, I line the cage with newspaper. Then, I put all the paper shreds in…

House Update

Posted in Family, and Thoughts

I am sitting here in surprise, wonderful surprise as I type this post. I just received a call from the lawyer’s office (for the closing on the house). They quoted me the new closing cost figure. The Lord is blessing us as the final closing costs are lower than the good faith estimate now. I don’t know how it happened, but I’m praising Him. I can’t get a hold of D as he’s not available during the day (which is why him calling yesterday was really a blessing). So, he doesn’t even know yet. We’ll be doing the final walk-through…

Thankful Thursday: Difficulty

Posted in Family

This week I’m focusing on being thankful when things are not going smoothly. It’s easy to be thankful when things are going great, but it’s much more difficult to be joyful when life has given you lemons. Wednesday, I called to find out the closing costs on the new house (we close on Friday). We had been given a good faith estimate, so we made sure we had set aside that amount plus a little bit more just in case. Unfortunately, nothing could have prepared me for the “sticker shock” that hit when they gave me the figure. It was…

Homeschool Radio Shows

Posted in Homeschooling, and Reviews

Around Thanksgiving, I ran across a homeschooling family that put out the old time radio shows on the internet for free. I subscribed and received a fun series called Cinnamon Bear. We listened to one episode each evening up until Christmas (unfortunately, we didn’t finish due to illness). We had a blast listening to this series, so I subscribed to Living Books For the Ears. Each week, they send out a different program for your listening pleasure. Best of all, this is all free to you. They do have different cds available for sale as well, but they do not…
