Thankful Thursday: Difficulty

Posted in Family

This week I’m focusing on being thankful when things are not going smoothly. It’s easy to be thankful when things are going great, but it’s much more difficult to be joyful when life has given you lemons.

Wednesday, I called to find out the closing costs on the new house (we close on Friday). We had been given a good faith estimate, so we made sure we had set aside that amount plus a little bit more just in case. Unfortunately, nothing could have prepared me for the “sticker shock” that hit when they gave me the figure. It was substantially higher than what we were quoted.

1. I’m thankful that the Lord helped me through the next few minutes as I was able to hold my tongue and not get angry.

2. I’m thankful that I called Wednesday and didn’t wait for them to call me (as we’re working on getting the “problem” corrected.)

3. I’m thankful that I’m older and wiser than I was several years ago. I knew that I could put my foot down and simply say, “that’s not acceptable.” I expected them to honor their original paperwork.

4. I’m thankful that my husband called shortly after I got off the phone with the mortgage company. It helped me work through my frustration before continuing on with talking to the company about correcting the problem.

5. I’m thankful that my husband got home early from work.

6. I’m thankful that it was a beautiful day outside. We were able to get out in the fresh air which always helps with our mood.

7. I’m thankful that munchkin did all her schoolwork quickly and efficiently which made the day much easier.

8. I’m thankful that the Lord has been working in me to completely trust in Him over these last few months. I know it will all work out in the end – somehow.

9. I’m thankful that even though I’m not feeling well, I am still able to get things done.

So, I will continue to thank the Lord for working in our lives even though right now things are a bit tough. We know that if this really is what the Lord wants for us, He will provide. I know that this is trivial compared to what some people are going through. I know that we are fortunate to have a home to live in currently and that we’re able to purchase a new home. I will praise the Lord in both the good times and the bad.

They pulled that on YOU too?

They did it to me on our closing and it cost about a grand I think.

I was not wise enough to confirm what they TOLD US the closing costs would be the day before though as you did.

I thought about walking away the day of closing when she blindsided me with the additional ‘costs’ but there was a lot of pressure (with the buyers present and all the hoopla the Real Estate company makes) that I just caved.

A cautionary tale for those buying in the future…

Oh I love “God is good” posts. Because God. Is. So. Good. Isn’t he? And when we need it most he reminds us of just that.

    God Bless You.

I so understand how you feel. Though, unlike you I wasn’t thankful for my difficult day last Tuesday due to poor customer service from my cellphone provider. I honor you for seeing the reasons to be grateful despite a seemingly hopeless and frustrating situation.

    God bless!

How true it is…thank you for the reminder that we are to give thanks WITHOUT ceasing…being thankful isn’t dependant upon our emotions (thank goodness)…it is by FAITH! Praying that God provides for y’all and that you continue to rely on His wisdom! Blessings…
