Happy 13th Birthday, Munchkin!

Our baby girl is 13. It’s hard to believe we’re parents to a teenager. Munchkin’s requested meals for her birthday from top to bottom all gluten free: homemade french toast sticks with fresh strawberries, turkey sandwich with apple slices, baked mac ‘n cheese with tomato salad, strawberry shortcake in the shape of a heart. Daddy gave Munchkin this ring for her birthday. It’s inscribed with Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Over the past year, we’ve had a great deal of uncertainty enter our lives. With D having 2 back surgeries, we didn’t know if he’d recover enough to continue his career in the Marine Corps. The truth is, we’re still not completely certain where we stand with that as he’s still on limited duty and hasn’t fully recovered from the last back surgery. We were told we were heading to Japan as our next duty station, so we went through the process of getting ready for that only to have D denied (as expected) due to his medical situation. Now,…

Adding Online Schooling to Our Homeschool Day

As Munchkin moves along in her education, I am finding that she enjoys more independent learning. While this is what we’ve been striving for during our journey, it comes with a different set of challenges. I find that I’m not as connected with the complete learning process, so I have to make a point to really talk to her and stay on top of her schoolwork to continue to gauge how she is doing and what approaches may need to be adjusted. My Dogs’ Crazy Obsessions

Some dogs are obsessed with bones or meat. My dogs? Well, they’re obsessed with fruits and veggies. As soon as someone starts eating an apple, they come very close and start staring. They want that apple. If they see me peeling sweet potatoes, they go crazy. I use raw sweet potatoes as treats when they need to go to their crates. (They are crated when we leave the house for their safety and the safety of our house.) Squash, lettuce, tomatoes, citrus fruit… We have yet to see a veggie or fruit they didn’t like. Spring 2012 Family Pictures

Munchkin had a beautiful blue dress on. D was wearing pants instead of jeans. It was beautiful outside. The day just called for some new family pictures. I took my camera and tripod with us to church on Sunday morning because I wanted us to take pictures where there was some green, some color. I knew the perfect place could be on the way home from church. D just laughed at me. He knows how I am about pictures. lol! We ended up taking pictures on the back side of the main library.
