A Simple Sunday Dinner

Posted in Family, Gluten Free, and Homemaking

We view Sunday as a day of worship, rest, and family time. Sunday mornings are spent worshiping and learning about our Savior, our Creator. Afternoons are spent relaxing as a family. Sometimes, we head out and do some exploring. Other times we watch a movie or play games. While the ideal is no work on Sundays, the reality is that sometimes D needs to work on a vehicle later in the day, but oddly, he usually finds that relaxing as well. Because we do view Sunday as a day of rest, I don’t cook elaborate meals on Sundays. Lunches are…

Up from the Grave He Arose!

Up From the Grave He Arose by Robert Lowry, 1826-1899 Low in the grave he lay, Jesus my Savior, waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord! Up from the grave he arose; with a mighty triumph o’er his foes; he arose a victor from the dark domain, and he lives forever, with his saints to reign. He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose! Vainly they watch his bed, Jesus my Savior, vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord! Up from the grave he arose; with a mighty triumph o’er his foes; he arose a victor from the dark domain,…

Crockpot Chicken Parmesan

Posted in Gluten Free, Homemaking, and Photography

Some days, you know that you’re just not going to have time for something like traditional gluten free baked chicken Parmesan. On those days, I made a cheater version in the slow cooker. Because I use the “dump” method for this, there isn’t a set recipe for it. I like to make extra, so we can make sandwiches the next day (or later in the week). Slow Cooker Chicken Parmesan Recipe Ingredients: 5 boneless, skinless chicken breasts 2 jars of marinara sauce seasoning (I generally use garlic, pepper, salt, oregano, parsley, basil.) shredded Parmesan cheese Directions: Place chicken breasts in…

The Old Rugged Cross

The Old Rugged Cross by George Bennard (1873-1958) On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, the emblem of suffering and shame; and I love that old cross where the dearest and best for a world of lost sinners was slain. So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it some day for a crown. O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world, has a wondrous attraction for me; for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above…

What is Real Learning?

Posted in Homeschooling

When I saw this quote, I knew that I needed to design a graphic/poster with it. It’s so true. “I imagine a school system that recognizes learning is natural, that a love of learning is normal, and that real learning is passionate learning. A school curriculum that values questions above answers… creativity above fact regurgitation… individuality above conformity.. and excellence above standardized performance….. And we must reject all notions of ‘reform’ that serve up more of the same: more testing, more ‘standards’, more uniformity, more conformity, more bureaucracy.” ~Tom Peters~ This is one of the reasons that we homeschool. We…
