We view Sunday as a day of worship, rest, and family time. Sunday mornings are spent worshiping and learning about our Savior, our Creator. Afternoons are spent relaxing as a family. Sometimes, we head out and do some exploring. Other times we watch a movie or play games. While the ideal is no work on Sundays, the reality is that sometimes D needs to work on a vehicle later in the day, but oddly, he usually finds that relaxing as well.
Because we do view Sunday as a day of rest, I don’t cook elaborate meals on Sundays. Lunches are quick, simple meals. D will often give me a break from cooking and throw together something for supper. Munchkin likes Sundays because she gets a break from chores including dishes. Many times, we’ll even use paper plates for fast clean-up.
On Resurrection (Easter) Sunday, I originally thought that we’d be going on a picnic after church, but D’s back was bothering him too much after the service. Instead, we had a nice meal at home.
I made up the deviled eggs and brought some out for D and Munchkin to munch on while I put together the rest of the meal. We had roast beef sandwiches and tropical fruit salad. Grandma and Grandpa had sent some delicious ruby red grapefruit our way at the end of March, and a sweet pineapple showed up on Friday. I had crisp apples on hand, so we decided fruit salad was a must. On Saturday, we picked up some bananas and blueberries from the store. I mixed all those tasty fruits together, tossed in some mandarin oranges, and topped it all of with a generous helping of unsweetened coconut. Yum!
Since the fruit salad was quite large, we were able to enjoy it throughout the day and still have a little left over for today. Munchkin’s not big on pineapple (Daddy and I love it), but she still really enjoyed the fruit salad. The sandwiches were a big hit especially since they had vine-ripened tomatoes and lettuce. (Both Daddy and daughter enjoy sandwiches with lettuce and thick slices of tomato.) The deviled eggs were gone in no time. I set aside a few hard boiled eggs, so we’ll be able to have a nice chef salad for lunch today. While our meal may not have been the traditional holiday feast, we enjoyed it.
We did Easter Sunday as a lunch picnic as well. I think we might de-food our holiday traditions – and focus on the event and the people, and less on the food. It was the most relaxing, yet full day, and happiest!

It seems like so many holiday traditions focus on food – the kind of food prep that makes you wiped out before the day even really begins. There is something freeing about stepping away from that and just enjoying the day and the people.
looks yummy
praying for D re his back
