2010 Christmas Tree

2010 Christmas Tree

I use to be the one to decorate the tree. I had fun decorating it “just so”. Once Munchkin was old enough, she joined in on the decorating. Now, she has taken over the responsibility of decorating the tree. It’s not something that I had planned as I do enjoy it. It’s something that she enjoys so much that I allow her to have free reign on decorating the tree.

2010 Christmas Tree with Train

After the tree is up, Munchkin starts the process of setting up the train.  Due to the location of the tree last year, she wasn’t able to set it up around the tree.  This year, she was able to place the Lego train set around the tree and then some.  She’s been having a blast playing with it and reconfiguring the setup again and again.

2010 Christmas Tree Close Up

Our main tree is a mix of different ornaments from over the years.  (The candy canes are fake as our “puppy” really likes candy canes and will take the real ones off the tree.  Don’t ask how we know….)  The old rustic star was purchased one year when we were in PA visiting my grandparents for Thanksgiving.  We had a beautiful light-up star that Munchkin adored, but sadly, it was broken in the move.  Now, our rustic star sits high on the treetop.  D usually lifts Munchkin up to put the star on the tree.  The tree makes the whole living room feel warm and cozy.

I love watching Munchkin and D sit by the tree and play with the train.  Munchkin is bumming a little this year as D’s back is out, so he hasn’t been able to play with the train set yet.  She’s eager for him to get better, so they can once again play together.  The warmth of the twinkling Christmas lights, the memories from the ornaments, and the train set – all these things help make the Christmas tree with the train around it one of my favorite holiday decorations.

What is your favorite Christmas decoration?

  3. The tree is beautiful. I’d have to say my favorite is a toss up between a fully decorated tree and outdoor lights. I love riding by houses at night and seeing them all lit up.

    Your tree looks lovely.

Our kids took over trimming the tree years ago and we all help in putting up the many other decorations we use from year to year. My blog has pictures of our tree and decorations if you didn’t see them yet. The links/pictures are on day 1 and day 5.

  8. My favorite decoration? Too many to name. We have an ornament (or more)on the tree for every state we’ve lived in. I love to remininsce about our Christmas memories in each place.

I love the photo ornaments, there are some homemade ones that I love because they make me chuckle, and I love the first Hallmark ornament I got in 1980!

  9. Oh, it looks beautiful! I love all of the decorations. I think my favorite tree ornaments are the first ones my boys made for me in preschool. They came out surprisingly well, and I treasure them. They get a place up top. So many of my ornaments have special meaning.

  11. We have a John Deere Christmas train set. I’ll have to be sure to get it out this year. We don’t set it out every year…maybe it is time this year. Beautiful tree!
