The weather is warming up, so it’s time to clean up the grill and start grilling. It’s also a good time to make sure you actually have enough propane to complete the grilling (assuming you’re using a propane grill). As the temps continue to rise, it’s nice to use the grill for both cooking and grilling to try to keep the house a little cooler. Did you know that you can cook in cast iron on the grill? No matter how you’re utilizing the grill, I find that hand protection is a must for me.
I like these Amish cooking gloves because I can easily grab a cast iron pan or even the hot food. You can easily flip those chicken breasts, wings, and thighs. You don’t have to be concerned with accidentally burning yourself. The gloves are easier to use than mitts because you have use of all of your fingers. Yes, it’s a little clunkier than say normal gloves because they’re made of silicone. The gloves don’t conform to your hands/fingers because they are a one-size-fits-most style. I have small hands and D has large hands, and we’re both able to use the cooking gloves.
The Amish Cooking Gloves are made of heat resistant silicone that can handle temperatures up to 425 degrees F. You will feel some heat through them, and I’ve found that I can’t hold the cast iron pot/pan for an extended period of time as it just gets too warm. They do work well for hanging onto the handle of the pot/pan while moving the pan, stirring, and serving food.
The gloves are dishwasher safe although they are so easy to clean that I don’t bother with using the dishwasher. In fact, I’ve washed the gloves while they were still on my hands if I got them dirty and needed to continue using them. Because they can get wet and not lose their heat resistant properties like traditional oven mitts, you can remove things like hard boiled eggs from the water without needing utensils.
While I’m happy to use these, I could also see them making a great father’s day gift for a guy who enjoys grilling and/or cooking.
