The Toy That Saved Christmas
Is Christmas all about getting more toys or is there something more? One toy at Wally P. Nezzer’s toy factory has decided that Mr. Nezzer can’t be right that Christmas is all about getting more stuff. This Buzz-Saw Louie doll sets off to find out the true meaning of Christmas. This 1996 VeggieTales Classic helps viewers see beyond the material “I wants” of Christmas to the real meaning behind the season – Christ.
The Star of Christmas
Cavis Appythart and Millward Phelps are working on getting stage great Effie Pickering to join them in putting on their first Christmas Spectacular musical – “The Princess and the Plumber.” They believe that having lots of electric lights and a big stage name will “teach London how to love!” Little Edmund Gilbert is also putting together a Christmas pageant which is scheduled for the same night. Edmund’s production will feature the unveiling of a beloved and priceless artifact. The famous playwrights are now battling against little Edmund for people’s attendance at their show. Will people be focused on all of the bling and priceless artifacts or will they learn the true meaning of love and Christmas?
Saint Nicholas
When Junior Asparagus and his Veggie friends learn that Laura Carrot’s dad has lost his job on Christmas Eve, Bob the Tomato decides to tell the kids a very special story about giving. Using a big storybook and a little imagination, they all travel back to ancient Greece to meet Saint Nicholas — the world’s greatest giver.
It’s a Meaningful Life
What if you had the chance to change everything you thought was not as you hoped in life? That’s just what is offered to Stewart (Larry) when he’s at his lowest point. He could have been the football hero, the TV star, the investment king, and the perfect dad and husband. Faced with losing his father s toy factory to a greedy business mogul, Stewart discovers a ticket for a one-night-only special train ride with a mysterious conductor to visit his past, present and future. Where will the train stop – and where will he step off in search of a meaningful life?
The Little Drummer Boy
In this Veggie-version of a holiday classic, Junior Asparagus stars as The Little Drummer Boy, a lonely child who finds the true meaning of Christmas when he stumbles upon
the birth of the baby Jesus. A story of generosity, hope and love, this timeless tale will warm the hearts of children everywhere!
Our Thoughts:
We really enjoy the VeggieTales Christmas episodes as it’s a fun, humorous way to remember the true meaning of the season. It’s interesting seeing the older VeggieTales animation versus the newer animation. The animation has definitely gotten better over the years. Because you are watching old episodes back-to-back with new episodes, it is more noticeable than if you were watching individual dvds. (This is not a negative – just an observation we made.)
The one drawback of purchasing the episodes this way is that you miss out on all of the fun bonuses that you receive on the individual dvds (bonus features, silly songs), but it’s a great way to have the complete VeggieTales Collection in one place for an affordable price. Just to clarify, the dvds contain the full episodes minus the bonus features, silly songs. The bonus Christmas music audio cd is a plus for any VeggieTales fan.
