Archery Practice at the Homestead

Munchkin getting ready to shoot arrow

Yes, we worked hard last week, but we also took some time out to relax and have a little fun here and there. As I wrote about previously, Munchkin has really taken to archery. After her archery class, she decided that she really wanted to have her own bow, so she could practice whenever as time allowed. She was willing to purchase it with her own money, so we knew that she was serious about it. Daddy and I decided that a bow and some arrows would be her Christmas present. Of course, we couldn’t actually wait until Christmas to give it to her (we’re bad like that – lol!), so we took her to the store and allowed her to pick out her bow.

The funny thing about this was that the guy at the store kept trying to get her to pick out a girly color, but she chose to go with the camouflage bow. 🙂 Yep, that’s our girl. 😉 We also picked up a few target arrows while we were there. Upon arriving home, I decided that Munchkin needed a quiver for those arrows. I looked around to see what fabric I had available. I ended up using an outdoor, leather-like material to make her a quiver. With a few adjustments to make sure that it fit properly, I finalized the design and placed the arrows in it. Munchkin was pleased with the results which made me happy. Now, it just needed to be tested.

Munchkin Shooting Arrow

The time to test it’s functionality ended up coming later than expected, but it did come when we made our way up to the homestead. We set up a target made from layers of cardboard scraps. (Eventually, we want to get a real, self-healing target, but this works for the time being.) We kept the dogs inside while Munchkin proceeded with her target practice. After she got into a groove, she did quite well. Ironically, one arrow went MIA. We looked everywhere for it, but it was never found. I’m sure it will show up one day in some odd spot.

We kept joking that the pack rat took it, but that is a story for another day….

    • Thanks. Yes, she’s really enjoying it. I just wish I could find a kids archery club or something for her as that would make it even more fun.
