My Birthday at the Homestead

Cabin Stairs
Except for the sunset, these pictures were all taken prior to purchase of the cabin.

The dogs were enjoying the cooler weather and the open spaces to run. Wiley quickly learned that if he listened and came when called that he didn’t have to be tied up or on a leash. His recall was wonderful. Wyatt, on the other hand, got so sidetracked by everything that he didn’t listen well. He found himself on leash a good bit of the time. We’re going to need to do some serious recall work with him so he can enjoy a bit more freedom next time we’re up there. Wiley happily followed me around as I worked around the outside of the house. Wyatt often found himself stuck inside the house with Munchkin because he wouldn’t listen.

One morning, we were out for a walk when the neighbors dogs started barking at Wiley and Wyatt. When we heard the neighbor talking to the dogs, we decided to make our way over and talk to him. The dogs got the chance to get to know each other a bit while we talked. This neighbor has 5 horses and a beautiful horse setup. He said he’d stop by later with his wife to exchange information, so we could stay in contact. We then headed back to the house and got to work.

Later that day, we ran into our neighbor and his wife who invited us over for dinner on my birthday. Once we explained that we were gluten free, they decided that they would put together a meal that was safe for us, so we were able to accept their invitation to dinner. We quickly learned that this small community looks out for each other. During the time that we were there, we met some of the neighbors and learned about the others. It sounds like they enjoy getting together now and again when people are around.

On my birthday, we headed into town to pick up a fridge for the cabin. Daddy and Munchkin then treated me to some gluten free pizza for lunch. Pizza has been a birthday tradition since I was a child. Since going gluten free, birthday pizza means that I need to bake up a pizza. It was rather fun to be able to just pick up a pizza for a change. After we returned back to the cabin, we did a little more work before heading over to the neighbor’s house for dinner.

Sunset at Cabin

Upon arrival at the neighbor’s house, we were taken on a tour of their stables and introduced to the horses. Of course, we had to treat the horses to a few carrots along the way. After the horses were settled in for the night, we headed inside the house for a tour of their beautiful home. We spent some time getting to know each other while the steaks and potatoes cooked on the grill. My birthday dinner included steaks, baked potatoes, and salads. It was delicious. We were blessed by the hospitality of our neighbors as they welcomed us into their lives.

My birthday concluded with Daddy, Munchkin, and I relaxing by the fire while watching a movie and eating popcorn. A nice conclusion to a beautiful day.
