Bittersweet Off-Roading Trip

Hawk on Cactus

Two weeks ago, we decided that it was time to take an off-roading trip. D felt that he could once again handle some of the jostling that takes place during the trip, and we felt that our new pups were at a point where they would do okay in the vehicle.

We quickly learned that we were out of practice when it came to getting ready for our outing. There was a time where we could be ready to go in no time flat, but apparently, we are really, really out of practice. Yep, it had been longer than we thought since we had done this last. Plus, you add in the unique nature of having to new pups were aren’t use to the whole routine, and it makes for an interesting prep period.

Finally, we were on the road and heading out to do some exploring. A bad feeling settles over me as I realize that in all of the craziness I had forgotten my camera. Ugh! The first time out in so long, and I forgot the camera. **sigh** (The picture above was snapped with my phone.)

Oh well, at least we were heading out. Right? The pups did really well in D’s truck.  Munchkin and Wiley were in the back while Wyatt sat up front with D and me. When it came time for a potty and stretch break, we were interested to see how the pups would take to exploring the desert. It turns out that, much to our relief, they totally enjoyed it. In fact, they were enjoying exploring so much that it took some convincing to get them back into the truck.

While we were happy to be back out exploring, we also found that we were really missing our sweet Bear. He always loved these trips, and he enjoyed cuddling with Munchkin in the back seat. A couple of times, Munchkin found herself in tears when she would go to do something only to remember that our special boy wasn’t there. Thankfully, Wiley seemed to sense her mood, so he gave her extra kisses and attempted to cuddle with her. It was a bittersweet trip for us.

It will take time to get over the loss of our furry companion, but we’re looking forward to all the new memories that we’ll be making with our new furry family members.

  1. 🙁 It is so hard to lose a pet. I’m glad your new dogs liked the adventure though. I’m sure it will be even better next time!
