Making Creation Our Classroom

making creation our classroomProject 365 – #231

As you can probably tell, we love to make the Lord’s Creation our classroom.  There is something wonderful about learning outdoors surrounded by the beauty and wonder of nature.  Often, we’ll research the area where we will be exploring prior to heading out – especially when we’re going somewhere like the Grand Canyon.  We try to have books and other research material available for reading.  Munchkin likes to carry a nature/wildlife guide with her, so she can look things up during our hikes.

The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
~Psalm 19:1~

Not only are we learning more about nature, but we’re also learning more about our Creator through His creation. Being out in nature can also be extremely peaceful and simple. We all need a break from the stresses of every day life. We need to recharge and refresh our minds and our bodies. It’s important to at least occasionally unplug from technology. Good physical exercise can have a calming affect. Plus, it tends to result in a good night’s rest.

We seem to find ourselves drawn into our natural surroundings. We do not worship the creation – rather – we worship the Creator by enjoying His creation. If we allow ourselves, we can find ourselves drawn closer to our Savior as we spent time exploring, listening, and observing our surroundings. I am so grateful that our Creator chose to make our world so beautiful for our enjoyment. I am thankful that He chose to reveal Himself more through His creation.

  1. Hi Crewmate! 🙂 That is so neat. That is the way I want to educate as well as the kids get older – more trips and jaunts and tie everything into that. It seems like such a memorable way to learn! 😉 Have a good weekend!

  3. We love field trips and learning in nature too. What field guide does your daughter carry? I think I shoot myself in the foot because I want to be able to look up EVERYTHING, but we can’t carry a huge book or a bunch of smaller books with us, I’d love to have a good, small enough to carry, book that would have most of what we’re likely to want to look up!
