Curiousity Files

Zombie Fire Ants… Cicada Killing Wasps… Quicksand… Puffer Fish… Red Tide…

As you can see, these are not your normal topics of study for an every day unit study.  No, these studies are meant to grab and hold your child’s attention.  They are complete, all-in-one studies which include lessons for most subjects.  Each study includes:

  • Bible study and memory verses
  • Math, history, and geography investigations
  • Literature and suggested book list
  • Writing, spelling, and vocabulary activities
  • Beautiful copywork pages (manuscript and cursive)
  • Science observations, projects, and experiments
  • Discussion questions
  • Art, crafts, drawing, and coloring pages
  • Lapbook and notebook pages
  • Internet resources and video links
  • Complete answer key

Zombie Fire AntsWe were given the opportunity to pick which study we would like to review.  Since Munchkin would be the one completing the study, I encouraged her to pick the study.  She was immediately drawn to the Zombie Fire Ants study.  We’d never heard of Zombie Fire Ants, so this unit study promised a new learning experience.

After looking over the unit, I decided that I would bind the whole study for easier use.  Munchkin treated it like her little science exploration unit.  Each day, Munchkin would on some of the unit.  She looked forward to learning more about the Zombie Fire Ants.  Each activity tied nicely into the unit theme.  She decided that she would do the hands-on activities and crafts after she completed the unit.

We’ve been using this unit as a supplement to our regular studies, so it’s taking us a little longer to work our way through the unit.  We still have several activities to complete in our study.

Munchkin thoroughly enjoys the Curiosity Files unit studies.  As a mom, I like that everything is laid out for me in one place.  There isn’t much prep required.  I can add more to the unit to beef it up with all of the great additional resources provided.  The unit is tailored to kids 8-13, but it can be used for younger and older kids.

Now, I should give you fair warning that there are some yucky things talked about in the study, but kids tend to like that type of thing.  **grin**  The conversational style of the unit makes you feel like Professor Ana Lyze is personally there guiding you through your studies.  It’s a fun adventure for kids young and old.

To get the best deal on The Curiosity Files, you have two options: the CD of all nine units is available for $49, or you can get all nine units as downlodable E-Books for $46. To purchase individually, please refer to The Old Schoolhouse Store website for pricing details.

I received a copy of Zombie Fire Ants as a member of the TOS Crew to help facilitate the writing of a frank and honest review. All opinions are my own.
