Munchkin started helping with dishes when she was fairly young. Originally, she just unloaded the dishes from the dishwasher and put them away. As she got a bit older, she started loading and unloading the dishwasher as well as hand washing dishes as needed.
When we moved here, we found that our dishwasher did not work. In fact, our dishes came out more dirty than when they went in. Since we live on base, we have notified housing a few times, but nothing they did fixed the problem. I grew tired of calling, so Munchkin started washing all dishes by hand.
Periodically, we would try out the dishwasher just to see if it had started working, but it was always the same result – dirtier dishes. It was a shame that we had a dishwasher, but we weren’t able to use it.
This week, D decided to try to use the dishwasher once again. We really expected to end up with dirtier dishes, but much to our surprise, the dishes came out clean. Munchkin was elated with the prospect of being able to use the dishwasher again. This week, for the first time in well over a year, Munchkin has been able to use the dishwasher instead of washing dishes by hand. To say that she was excited about this would be an understatement.
Today, both Munchkin and I are very grateful for a working dishwasher. We don’t know why it all of a sudden started working, but we are thankful that it’s working. It may not continue to work, but we’ll rejoice for now.

It’s so great to have a working dishwasher! Sometimes you have to lose things to appreciate them
Hehe, I am with Miss Munchkin ~ I would be spinning like a top!! Before we were able to have our kitchen re-done we were a wash the dishes by hand family…well, I was the wash the dishes by hand mom!! Seems that they came out of the dishwater just as dirty as they went in when left to the kiddos. They were more interested in spraying each other with the hose from the sink and throwing the bubbles at each other. So I would have to say that I am VERY thankful for my dishwasher too! Tell Munchkin that I am happy that she will no longer have dish panned hands! Have a great day, God Bless 🙂
I can only imagine how excited she was, when she found out the dishwasher works and cleans well. 🙂

I hear ya Munchkin! I hate washing dishes by hand. Each time I have to (either camping or repairs for the trusty ol’ Kitchen Aid) I am again thankful for modern conveniences!

I’m glad you’re dishwasher worked! Our brand new dishwasher has never cleaned properly, and we found out they all need a new motor. So, I’ve been waiting for a motor for a week, and washing dishes for the past couple of weeeks, and I don’t like it. Especially in this dry weather – my hands crack. I can’t imagine not having a dishwasher for a year! I hope your’s keeps working.

I lived for over a year without a dishwasher. Munchkin has my complete understanding! I’m very happy your dishwasher decided to work!

So glad your dishwasher is working again. Having lived on base for years I know how frustrating it is when housing maintenance can’t fix something. Our disposal gave us fits at our last base. We were told no food of any kind down the disposal, only liquid. Kind of defeats the purpose.
