Review: PG Key

Posted in Reviews

PG KeyExperts agree that the best way to keep kids safe on the internet is having active parental involvement when kids are surfing the net.  Parents need to make and enforce safety rules, supervise online time, and give guidance as to the best practices for fun and safe surfing.  How does a parent handle the need for constant supervision?

One of the best ways to handle internet safety is to have the computer in a central location where everyone can see what is happening on the computer.  After that, parents need to have some sort of computer safety product installed on the computer.

PG Key has listened to recommendations from internet security professionals as well as the law enforcement community to create a product that will allow parents to create a “kid safe” computing environment.

I found the PG Key easy to install and use.  You plug the usb “key” into the computer and install the program.  Once the program is installed, you set up your password.  If you have multiple users on the computer, you’ll want to set up different accounts for each person.  After installation, you need to register the key to get full use of all of the features.

Some of the key features that I like about PG Key is the ability to limit computer use, record everything taking place on the computer, and ease of use.  If you remove the key from the computer, the computer is locked for all users who are not administrators.  The administrator password(s) keep other users from being able to use the computer.

Unfortunately, shortly after I installed the PG Key, my computer finally died.  (Please note: This was in no way related to installing the PG Key.)  Because we have spent the last few weeks trying to get our computer back up and running, I have not been able to thoroughly test out this product.  My observations are based upon limited use.

Thankfully, some of my fellow crew mates were able to thoroughly check out all aspects of the PG Key, so you’ll want to head on over and check them out.

With PG Key, there are no annual fees.  The purchase price of $49.99 includes support for the product.  Keep in mind that you need one PG Key for each computer that you want protected in the home.

I received a PG Key as a member of the TOS Crew to help facilitate the writing of a frank and honest review. All opinions are my own.
