The owners of Virginia Soaps and Scents are a homeschooling family with nine children living in rural Virginia. Their interest in soap making began with a history lesson and developed into an artistic passion. Their soaps are made with all natural oils – no chemicals. Each bar is hand cut, so no two are exactly the same.
Upon receiving our review products, I realized that we wouldn’t be able to use all of the products that had been sent to us as we’re very sensitive to fragrances. Since we really wanted to try out these natural soaps and shampoo products, I contacted the Spargurs to find out a little more about the products. They were extremely helpful as I asked various questions about their products. Once I determined that the soaps and shampoo were gluten free, we decided to order some of their fragrance free line as well as some of their limited holiday scent, peppermint.
My first try with the shampoo bar did not go well. It left my hair feeling heavy and oily. I tried again the next day making sure that I built up a better lather. Since I like natural products, I really wanted this product to work. What I have found is that I need to find a balance between too little lather and too much lather due to my hair being oily. When I find this balance, I love how soft my hair feels. I think my hair may do a bit better with their new line that is meant for oily hair. Shampoo bars are 5.5 oz and cost $5.50 per bar or $10.00 for 2 bars.
The hand soap (unscented and peppermint) not only works well, but it is also beautiful. The soap leaves your hands feeling soft and moisturized instead of try like many regular soaps. I plan on trying to make some homemade liquid soap from these bars. (Our family prefers liquid soap.) Virginia Soaps and Scents offer their soaps in many lovely scents including their limited edition holiday scents (peppermint, wild bayberry, and pumpkin spice). Thankfully, for those of us that prefer/need unscented products, they also offer an unscented line. The soap bars are 4.5 oz and cost $4.50 per bar or $12.00 for 3.
I had never made my own laundry soap, so I was looking forward to trying out the “make your own laundry soap kit“. We had a major incident in the dining room, so I had a huge number of towels that needed to be washed. I decided it was the perfect time to try out the laundry soap. Munchkin had fun making our own laundry soap. She stirred the soap bits into the hot water and then added the other ingredients to the soapy water. She thought it was cool how the mixture turned into a gel. Once the laundry soap cooled, we tried it out on our huge pile of towels. The towels came out clean and smelling fresh. The laundry soap kit costs $4.95 or $25.00 for 6 kits. (This works well with our HE front loading washing machine.)
I am very impressed by the customer service offered by Virginia Soaps and Scents. I like that their products are natural and reasonably priced. Another huge plus for us is that their products are gluten free.
I love handmade soap!
I love all natural soap so I will need to try and get some Virginia Soap to see what they are like.
Good post 🙂
