Fit Mommy Friday: Fitness Challenge

Fit Mommy Friday

Denise from Got Chai says:

There seems to be a common thread here among us Fit Mommies and it’s this:

A serious lack of motivation!

Factors such as: stress, an insane schedule, illness, injury, the new school year, or even the dreary fall weather can do a number on our workout routines, pushing them and our goals to the back burner.

Trouble is, many times that’s exactly where they stay. Once the vicious cycle of “Exercise, eat right, get fit, feel great / Get bored, gain weight, feel bad” begins, it’s hard to stop. (Can I hear an “Amen”?)

Well, the truth of the matter is that Denise has me pegged. Yep, lack of motivation once I get out of the habit is seriously a problem for me, so this challenge is perfect for me. You can read more about the challenge at Got Chai.  The basics – for 10 weeks, I will be keeping a journal of my progress towards the fitness goals that I’ve set for myself.

For me to be able to achieve my goals, they have to be a challenge yet completely obtainable.  Me saying that I’m going to cut out sweets when we’re going into the holiday season would be setting myself up for failure from day one.  There is nothing wrong with sweets when eaten in moderation, so for me, moderation is going to be key.

My goals for the next 10 weeks:

  1. Drink at least 2 large glasses of water each day.
  2. Exercise at least 3 times per week (exercise will include walking, hiking, Wii, Body Gospel…)
  3. Do not sit at the computer for more than 30 minutes at a time. Take at least a 10 minute break.
  4. Eat at least 4 servings of veggies per day.
  5. Control portion size of meals and sweets.
  6. Substitute more healthy options (such as tortilla chips & salsa) for less healthy options (such as chips & dip)
  7. Go to bed at a decent time – ya know, before 1 or 2 am (Yep, I’m bad about that.)

Now, I just need to actually post my Fit Mommy Challenge results on a regular basis. **insert sheepish grin**  While it’s fun to be competing for a prize/award, the best award truly is a healthier, fitter me.  I want to be a good example to Munchkin and enjoy our family time together.

The challenge begins on Monday, and we’d love to have you join us in the Fit Mommy Friday 10 week fitness challenge!

  1. Woohoooooo!!! Heather’s back in the game!! *High fives* 😀

Oooooh, I LOVE your goal of limiting your computer time and taking a 10 minute break every 30 mins. That’s awesome! (Hmm…maybe I should consider doing that, too?) And you’re right–with the holidays fast approaching, a firm “no sweets” goal is likely to result in failure. I know I couldn’t do it! (Especially since my dad always makes me a batch of his scrumptious fudge! Umm…hello?!)

I’m really, really looking forward to reading all about your progress each week! Good luck on achieving your goals!! You’re on your way to seeing some fantastic results!

  4. These are GREAT goals! What is “Body Gospel”? I didn’t even think about sleep (or lack thereof) as being an issue for my eating but I’m sure it is! I’m glad to have you with me / us on this journey!

    • Lack of sleep is really bad for me. I also tend to want to snack more when I’m up later. 🙁
