Being Supermom?

Posted in Homemaking, Homeschooling, and Thoughts

To Do ListThe TOS Crew question of the week was “How do homeschoolers find time for everything?”  Well, seeing how I didn’t actually get the chance to write up my response to the question in time, I would have to say that we don’t. lol!

We all have decisions to make about our time and priorities.  It’s pretty much impossible to get everything done that we’d like to accomplish each day even if we cut out all tv or other things viewed as time wasters. We always have one more thing that needs to be done or could be done.

After my time with the Lord, what is most important will vary from day to day.  I usually start out with a basic plan of what I would like to accomplish.

My perfect day would go something like this:

  • Get up and get breakfast for Munchkin and myself.
  • Check email while eating breakfast.
  • Get Munchkin started with her school work.
  • Throw some laundry in the washer and then hop in the shower.
  • Get some cleaning done.
  • Work on blog and online stuff while helping Munchkin with school work.
  • Throw laundry in dryer.
  • Get lunch ready.
  • Work on reviews and new recipes.
  • Get some more cleaning done.
  • Help Munchkin finish up her school work.
  • Get some reading done for book reviews.
  • Have Munchkin do her chores.
  • Watch Munchkin as she’s coming up with some new creation.
  • Get supper started if it’s not already in crockpot.
  • Clean up kitchen while Munchkin plays with her friends.
  • Depending on the day, take Munchkin to practice or church.
  • Serve supper before church or after practice.
  • Make sure D can relax for a bit after work.
  • Spend time together as a family.
  • Get Munchkin ready for bed.
  • Spend some time with D before he goes to sleep.
  • Work on online stuff.

Rarely, if ever, do I actually have a perfect day.  Life happens.  Sometimes, schooling has to be set aside for more important matters.  Sometimes schooling is set aside for other fun things like field trips.  There are times that housework is pushed aside for this or that.  Since grabbing a bite to eat out is not really an option, cooking will very rarely be set aside.

Right now, due to all of the reviews and giveaways that I’m doing, I don’t have the time to sit and create homeschooling resources for Munchkin.  We’re using resources created by someone else, and that’s okay.  I currently need to be on the computer a bit more than is ideal, but thankfully, my family doesn’t mind as I try to at least be in the room with them while I’m working.  (Laptops and wifi are wonderful!!!)

Weekends are family time.  Other things are set aside as much as possible, so we can focus on keeping the family unit strong.  This doesn’t mean that we don’t do anything with others, but it does mean that we try our best to make sure we spend some good quality time together.

I think the key to “accomplishing it all” is giving the day to the Lord.  Allow Him to lead in what needs to be done.  Although I may have a to do list a mile long, He probably has other plans for the day.  If I try to fight His plans, then my day will not go well.  If I listen to His leading, we’ll probably have a great day even if the to do list doesn’t get done.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13

When you write it all down in list form, it looks pretty crazy. 🙂

  2. Yes, being a member of the TOS Crew certainly keeps me hopping as well. You’ve done an excellent job of illustrating the best way to get everything done is to remain flexible and be prepared to change if necessary. I try to keep a consistent schedule, but I’ve found that rigid schedules really cause more stress for me than not having a schedule at all! Thanks for sharing.

I do not do well with rigid schedules either.
