Nutrition 101: Choose Life! is a complete nutrition and health curriculum. It covers the major body systems, what they do, how they function, and how they are affected by both good and bad foods. The 448 pages are packed with information, activities, and recipes.
You will learn about:
- The Brain and Nervous System
- Digestion and Elimination
- Respiration and Olfactory
- Muscular and Skeletal Systems
- Cardiovascular and Immune Systems
- Endocrine System and Emotions
This Bible based curriculum will teach your kids (and you) the whys behind healthy eating. You will not only learn how to eat better, but also why different foods make you feel better (or worse). You will come away with a better understanding of the body that God gave you.
When I first downloaded Nutrition 101, I was amazed at how much information was included. I liked that there were activities and recipes built into each chapter within the 6 units. While there is a recommended plan for you to use, there is a great deal of flexibility built into the program. You could easily use it for one student or a large group of students.
We decided to follow the recommended plan.
- Day One: Read over the chapter and discussion questions and choose activities.
- Day Two: Review chapter highlights and shop for or collect ingredients for the “power” recipe.
- Day Three: Prepare the “power” recipe for snack or meal time.
- Day Four: Choose activities from the “power” recipe.
- Day Five: Share highlights from the week during family meal time.
Some of the chapters contained a good deal of reading, so there were times that we continued to reading on day 2 instead of completing it all in one day. I decided to read the chapters to Munchkin instead of having her read them on her own. Usually, I would have her color or do some other hands on thing (based on reading) while I read.
Here are some pictures from Munchkin making the “power” recipe for the brain.
D and I both really liked this “power” recipe. Munchkin was great about giving it an honest try, but she didn’t care for it.
After doing the first unit (4 chapters), we decided to set this aside until Munchkin gets a little older. She felt a little overwhelmed by all of the information being presented. While I personally enjoyed the curriculum and would highly recommend it to others, it’s not a good fit for Munchkin at this point in time.
