Adding Music to the Mix

Posted in Family, and Homeschooling

Munchkin has shown some interest in playing the guitar for at least 2 years, but we weren’t sure she was serious about it. Just recently, she decided that she wanted to make a real commitment to learning to play. Some interesting conversations lead us to believe that this was a genuine desire that wasn’t going to go away quickly. We talked to a few people and did some research, and then we headed over to the music store. After talking to the owner, we worked out a deal with the owner.

Munchkin happily came home and tested out her new guitar. She started on her first lesson pretty much as soon as she got home. We are requiring practice every day. I’m also learning with her, so I’m practicing daily as well. I figure I better be a good example. lol!

Here she is with her new guitar. It’s a 3/4 guitar and works well for both of us.

The introduction to playing the guitar coincides with our starting a music composer study. She will also be learning music theory as she learns to play the guitar. I’m excited to finally be adding music to our homeschool day. Music has always been pushed to the side because we didn’t have time, but now, music will be a normal part of our day.

Music is so important to a homeschooling curriculum – well done for taking the plunge!
