Christmas Overseas

Posted in Family, and Holidays

Several of the wives of the Marines with my hubby decided that they would make stockings for all of the guys in the unit for Christmas. They requested that each family send enough stocking stuffers for each of the guys to their Marine (or Sailor, as there is one). I personally thought this was a very cool idea.

When D heard about this (as I tell him when to expect a package, so he can be on the look out for it), he asked if we could send some stockings for their interpreters. I said yes as these guys make a huge difference for our guys. It was a great little way to say “thank you”. When Munchkin heard about this, she decided that we should make the stockings. We used a simple design, so Munchkin would be able to make some on her own.

We’re pleased with the way they turned out.

We hope they (along with the other stockings) help spread a little Christmas cheer. We also sent D a HUGE stocking and little Christmas tree.

I think the stocking are a wonderful idea. I remember doing something like that when my dh was out to sea. I pray that yours and munchkins Christmas will be a blessed one even though D will be away. I am praying for you all.

What a great thing to do. My husband was a Marine. (more than 25 years) His time spent over seas was very hard for us because when he was there we did not have e-mail or computers that we could use. The phones were so expensive too. I remember crying once because he was in Japan for Christmas and called home…I know the call was so important to us as a family but I also knew the bill would come..it did more than $100.00 for one phone call. This when $100.00 was almost half of our rent…it was hard…I know the stockings will mean so much to the men and women who recieve them. Thanks for sharing your blog. Roxie

Sounds wonderful! And with the guys each adding a stuffer they’ll have gifts from several families. The tree is a good idea, too. I remember pictures from when my son was deployed of the decorations in their quarters and outside.
We could all send cards if we knew the address.
