Sewing Camp Ends…

Posted in Homemaking

…alas, my little girl is highly disappointed that sewing camp is over. (She also doesn’t want me to post pictures of the boxers she made yesterday or the “big shorts” that she made today. Apparently, that would be embarrassing???) Anyway, they’re cute. They ended the day with a big pizza party which was a lot of fun.

She wanted to go to the next sewing camp that is in July, but VBS is that week. She decided that VBS was more important. They do have sewing classes one Saturday a month though, so she may take those.

Yesterday, I took her over to JoAnn Fabrics to pick out some fabric. They have 50% off their clearance fabrics right now, so I told her that she could pick out several fabrics if they had the $2 sticker on them. So, she picked out several fabrics that ended up being less than $1 a yard with the teacher’s discount card.

She picked out some lovely fabrics! Would love to see what she made in sewing class, but I understand.

I just got BACK from JoAnns! I took advantage of the fabric sale AND the butterick patterns for .99! In fact, I think I have a few of the ones on the right hand side of your picture! 🙂

I am interested…WHAT exactly did you mean about a teacher discount card? Did you get one because you are a homeschooler? Do you have to show proof? Technically, I am NOT teaching yet-but I am I AM!!! I would LOVE a discount card! 🙂

Look for a book in the library by Elenore Burns called Quilt In A Day Log Cabin blocks…she has already made a quilted place mat, but it would be fun for her to take the scraps from her projects she has made so far and make some quilt blocks from the scraps. Before you know it you have enough blocks for a twin size quilt. I make these blocks from my scraps all the time. Then I can sew a gift quilt in a hurry when I need a gift.
Sewing is a wonderful hobby to learn and a life long skill that will be a help to her. I learned to sew from my grandmother and I love it. I am the only family member who sews now that Grandma is gone. Guess who does all the mending for a large family??? I don’t mind.
