It’s hard to believe, but we’re getting ready to start the new school year. Yes, I know that sounds odd considering most public schools just got finished with their year, but we homeschool year around. Why? Honestly, munchkin is better able to stay on top of things when there isn’t a long break in between learning periods. Also, we like to be able to take breaks as we see fit. Often this means, whenever Daddy is home, we’re not schooling. We can take time off whenever we have family in town or when we need to head somewhere. This allows us a wonderful freedom while being able to continue on with Munchkin’s schooling.
Granted, this does mean that we’re schooling in the summer. This year, Munchkin is a bit bummed as she’s enjoying her carefree days of summer. But, trust me, she’ll have plenty of time to play. We’re still at a point that we’re able to get most of our schooling done in the morning as long as she’s willing to focus on the tasks at hand. (Isn’t that always the case with any of us?)
We have our first field trip of the new school year planned for next week. We’ll be heading over to a local petting zoo for a behind the scenes tour and scavenger hunt. Each child will be able to come home with a peacock feather. We’ll also be heading over to the park to learn more about a lego club that may be starting out in our area. As you can see, we’ll have a busy week, but it should be fun.
enjoy your new school year
happy learning
The one thing I love about homeschooling (keep in mind I have no children) is the year-round approach. Taking breaks when it fits your family is awesome. I also am the type of learner that does best in hands on, which public school just does not get.
We have been working during the summer too. Sometimes the days are extra light. This week the girls and Benjamin are going to VBS so we’ll do a little reading in the afternoon. Like you, I don’t like the long breaks between leaning periods. Have a great start to your schoolyear!

Its gotta be fun to have fieldtrips at the beginning!! I’m spending the summer looking over Vol 1/Ch 1 – feeling overwhelmed, but I just need to dive into it!
