Works for Me Wednesday: Car Edition

Posted in Homemaking

For this weeks WFMW: car edition, I wanted to talk about car organization. If you have kids (or even if you don’t), you know how quickly the car can get messy. It’s good to keep all of your car necessities (jumper cables, extra oil, washer fluid, tow rope…) in one location. I like to keep all of my car care items in a collapsible crate like these in the back of the car.

Another great tool for organization is this great kids organizer. We have one of these organizers sitting in between the two seats in the back for all of munchkin’s “stuff”. It allows her to keep things in the vehicle without them being all over the place. Of coarse, it needs to be periodically unpacked (cleaned out) and repacked.

Don’t forget how great a simple backpack or handbag filled with special goodies and snacks can make for great entertainment on a longer trip. I like to get new entertainment things (crayons, coloring books, maze books, puzzle books, books, joke books…) for munchkin when I see them on sale. I put them away for whatever trips that we take.

If you allow your kids to watch movies, don’t forget the value of a portable dvd player for the vehicle. Rent a new movie that they either haven’t seen for a while or have never seen for an especially long trip. You can now get joy sticks that are loaded with games that are great for car trips as well.

All of these things are what works for us in the car. For more great ideas, head over to Rocks in My Dryer.

Last year, for a long trip, I bought a small washbasket to keep between the children’s seats.

We don’t use anything, but we really need to! Great ideas.
