With everything that we have going on right now, playtime and one-on-one time with Munchkin have become essential. And, guess what!! It’s essential for me too! I need that down time. It’s amazing how much better you feel when you have taken out time to really have fun with your child.
It’s fun to see munchkin’s face light up with laughter as we’re playing together or reading together. It doesn’t matter what we do as long as it’s quality time together not working.
Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s fun to work together as well, but we need that playtime as well. I’ve noticed that the more I play with munchkin, the more she wants to help me with my tougher jobs or help me out in other ways.
See, around here, Daddy is usually the fun, playful one while mommy gets things done and is more serious. We have fun together, but it’s different. While he’s gone, I get to fill both roles, but she needs more of the fun quotient. I can’t play the same way that Daddy plays, so we have to come up with other fun things to do together that make her happy. I become the tickle monster and tickle her until she squeals for me to stop. I can never do it like Daddy does, but she loves it just the same. She’s Daddy’s little girl, but she loves her mommy too.
As we grow up, we all too often forget how to play and have fun. Yet, playing is really good for us. Yesterday, I posted that 100 laughs equals 10 minutes on a rowing machine. Hmmm… which would you rather do? Laugh with your child or use a rowing machine for 10 minutes. Can you imagine how much healthier we would be if we took the time to laugh and play every day with our children. Statistics show that adults only laugh an average of 15 times a day while kids laugh over 400 times a day. Wow!!!
This past week has really shown me how much playing and laughing work for me! Find out what works for others over at Rocks in My Dryer. To learn more about Works for Me Wednesday, click on the WFMW image above.
