North Star GamesWits and Wagers Family

North Star Games say that they have games with personality. They want to bring friends and families together with fun, innovative party and family games.

It’s no secret around out house that I am not a big game person (other than Wii games), but both D and Munchkin love to play board games.  Because I love them, I try to join in on the fun.  Every now and then, a game comes along that makes it a bit easier to join in on their crazy fun….

As soon as Wits and Wagers Family arrived, Munchkin took it out of the package and started checking it out.  She was very excited about the new game.  Unfortunately, the timing for actually sitting down and playing the game wasn’t right.  She wasn’t very thrilled with that fact, so she eagerly kept asking to play.

Before we could sit down and play, I needed to look over the directions.  Thankfully, game play was fairly simple.  No complex rules – just simple play.  The game comes with:

  • 150 trivia question cards
  • 1 dry erase score board
  • 5 dry erase answer boards
  • 5 large meeples
  • 5 small meeples
  • 5 markers
  • instructions

Meet the Meeples

Basic Game Play: Each player writes down a guess to the trivia question.  You do not need to be great at trivia for this game.  Each player’s point scoring is based upon guessing who has the best answer to the question.  It could be you, or it could be someone else.  You each decide who has the best answer.

Wits and Wagers Family is one of those games where more players makes the game more fun.  It’s fun for our small family, but it would be even more fun for a larger group.  This would make an excellent party game.  (Think Christmas or New Year’s Eve Party!)  The target age group is 8+, and it’s meant for 3-10 players.  You can play with more if you create larger teams.

Although there are 300 kid-friendly questions with this game, I can see how this game could have a limited life once you’ve gotten to know the answers to the questions.  Hopefully, North Star Games will come up with expansion packs of more trivia questions to keep the fun going.

Wits and Wagers Family retails for $19.99.

I received a copy of this game as a member of the TOS Crew to help facilitate the writing of a frank and honest review. No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.
