Tropical Traditions Organic Palm Shortening Review and Giveaway

Posted in Gluten Free, Homemaking, and Reviews

Palm ShorteningGoing gluten free caused us to really have to change our eating habits.  While we were making the transition to being completely gluten free, we started to eat much healthier.  Because I had to pay close attention to all of the details on packaging, we started to realize how much junk we were really eating.  We started to make even more changes.  The one thing that I found difficult to replace was shortening.  I wanted a healthier alternative to regular shortening, but I couldn’t find anything.

When I learned that I would be trying out the Tropical Traditions Palm Shortening, I was quite excited.  This was a healthy alternative to regular shortening, but would it work as well in my baking and cooking?  I tested the palm shortening out in a variety of ways in order to truly get a feel for how well it would replace traditional shortening.  The results were wonderful.  We had delicious pan fried chicken, fried cheese sticks, cookies, cupcakes with butter cream frosting, and many other tasty meals, side dishes, and desserts.

Palm shortening is palm oil that has some of its unsaturated fats removed, giving it a very firm texture, and high melting point. The melting point of our Organic Palm Shortening is 97 degrees F., making it very shelf stable. It is NOT hydrogenised, and contains NO trans fats! It is great for deep-fat frying and baking, and is not prone to rancidity. Since it has been separated from some of the unsaturated portion of the oil, it is colorless and odorless, and will not affect the taste of foods like Virgin Palm Oil does.

I was very happy with the results of our taste testing and thrilled to find a healthy alternative to regular shortening.

I am pleased that I am able to offer my readers the opportunity to win their own container of Tropical Traditions Palm Shortening.

I would like to experiment with using Tropical Traditions Shredded Coconut to make Coconut Macaroons. Organic, unleavened, and gluten free. That and a Polynesian themed cocktail to complement the flavor of coconut.
