Getting Organized Before the Move

Posted in Homemaking, and Military Life

With each move comes the need for purging the extras that we no longer need and organizing the items that we do need. Since we have orders overseas, I’ve decided not to wait until the last minute to start the process. Plus, this move requires a more brutal purging process for our household items which means taking a closer look at what we really need. We don’t want to pay to store items we don’t need. We also don’t want to waste our precious overseas weight allowance on “stuff” we don’t really need. Our IKEA Trofast system is one of…

WFMW: Craft and Toy Storage

Posted in Homemaking

I try to keep lots of crafting supplies on hand for Munchkin and her friend.  The problem is keeping those supplies organized and easily in reach.  We had some of the plastic rolling carts, but they were always collapsing and breaking.  A few years back, we had purchased a couple of the Trofast system units from IKEA for storage of some of my things.  When we moved this time, I decided these would be perfect to store craft and school supplies. (The white stand next to the Trofast units is from our old bathroom, but it doesn’t work at our…

Works for Me Wednesday: Manual Binder

Posted in Homemaking

We had so many different product manuals lying around the house that it was crazy. Then, there were all the manuals that my husband had for all of his stuff in the garage. Needless to say, I needed to find a better way to organize them and keep them all in one location. I created binders (Garage Edition, House Edition, Electronics Edition) and put all of the manuals in sleeve protectors in the binders. (Ok, I’ll be honest. The only one that is completely done is D’s as his was first on the list. lol! The rest are in process…

Dvd/Cd/Game Storage

Posted in Homemaking

I don’t know about you, but at our house we have a lot of dvds, cds, computer games, and computer software. I was tired of trying to find a place for everything. So, we decided to take all the dvds (divided up according to Mom/Dad movies & family/kids movies) out of the cases and put them in cd storage binders. Next, we took all the music cds out of their cases and put them in cd storage binders. Munchkin has her own cd storage binder for her computer games. I have a case for all my computer related things, and…

DIY Storage Containers from Recycled Materials

Posted in Homemaking, and Thrifty Ideas

My daughter decided that she needed some containers to store her things in. I didn’t want to spend any money, so I went to see what I had around the house. I found several oatmeal containers. While I knew that she’d be ok with plain storage containers, I thought it would be fun to create something a little fancier and fun. After locating some recycled wrapping paper, I cut circles out of the wrapping paper for the lids and rectangle strips to wrap the containers. I used double-sided tape to secure the wrapping paper around the storage container and to…
