Snowy Sugar Cookies

Posted in Gluten Free, Holidays, and Homemaking

We miss snow.  What can I say?  We’re actually a family of strange people who really enjoy snow.  Now, please keep in mind that we still very much like the mild winters here as we are able to do all kinds of outdoor activities without freezing. Since we won’t be having snow any time in the near future, we decided to make some gluten free snowy sugar cookies in addition to other frosted gluten free sugar cookies.  We just used my easy gluten free drop sugar cookie recipe for this batch.  We decided to use the multi-grain flour blend instead…

Gluten Free Herb Stuffing

One of the Thanksgiving staples that I’ve had the most difficulty replacing would be good old fashioned herb stuffing/dressing (think a better stove top dressing.)  After many different trial and error sessions over the last couple of years, I’ve finally been able to create a delicious replacement.  We cook our stuffing outside of the bird, so I guess it’s technically called dressing. Gluten Free Herb Stuffing Recipe Ingredients: 1 lb loaf of Gluten Free Herb Bread 1 medium onion, diced 4-5 stalks of celery, diced 2 medium carrot, diced 1/4 C butter, unsalted 2 C vegetable stock Directions: Place butter…

Gluten Free No-Cook Cranberry Relish

Posted in Gluten Free, and Homemaking

My mom use to make this no-cook cranberry relish for us.  I never did find her old recipe, so I just recreated it from memory.  We do have a funny story to go along with this one.  When my sister and I were younger, my mom decided to allow us to help with making the cranberry relish.  She had one of the old grinders that you fastened to a table.  We started putting the ingredients into the grinder and turning the handle.  I’m not exactly sure what happened next, but before we knew it, there was cranberry relish all over…

First Breadmaking Attempt: Herb Bread

Posted in Gluten Free, and Homemaking

Seeing how I’m still battling with a stomach bug, Munchkin decided that she would step up and help me get started on some of the Thanksgiving preparations.  Since we’re gluten free, part of the process is making bread for the express purpose of making stuffing/dressing.  The bread needs to sit and get a little stale prior to making the stuffing/dressing, so we needed to get started on the process today. Munchkin decided that she would like to learn how to make gluten free bread.  The nice thing about gluten free bread is that you don’t have to concern yourself with…
