Asian Black Beans and Rice

Posted in Gluten Free

I had put brown rice in the rice cooker earlier in the day, but I had forgotten to get out the protein (chicken) from the freezer. Supper time was almost upon us, so I needed to do some quick thinking on what we were going to have. While I’m trying to get in the habit of using dried beans more often, I admit that I still keep canned beans on hand. They’re quick and easy. Plus, Munchkin really likes to eat canned beans for snacks. (Yes, I realize that is a bit odd, but she likes her fruits and veggies.…

Homeschool Review: Week Ending 2/7/14

Posted in Family, and Homeschooling

It’s hard to believe that we’re getting ready to head into the second week of February. Where has time gone? This month has found us finishing up some homeschool subjects/curriculum while starting others. Munchkin wrapped up her Analytical Grammar studies this week. She found that who and whom are not her friends, but otherwise did quite well with her final. We’ll be continuing to review grammar with the Analytical Grammar Review and Reinforcement book. Ken Ham, international speaker and author on biblical authority, examines how compromise starting…

Phantom’s Training: Desensitizing to Rope

Posted in Family

Daniel has been working with Phantom as I haven’t felt up to getting any training done. Unfortunately, this means that currently, Phantom is only getting training once or twice a week, so his training is going slower than we would like. For us, the groundwork is extremely important as it will make for a better horse and better ride once we get back to that point. Because we follow the Clinton Anderson method with our horses, the first step is desensitizing with the tools. They’re both pretty good with the rope although Phantom can be a bit sketchy on certain…
