My Thoughts:

I’ve been reading Crystal’s blog since pretty much the beginning. She’s one of those people who always seem to have it all together even though she’s the first to admit that she doesn’t. She started out by sharing her family’s keys to financial freedom, and it blossomed into so much more. The Lord used her to touch many peoples lives over the years.

In Say Goodbye to Survival Mode, Crystal talks about her journey to freedom from stress, depression, and perfection – the supermom syndrome. She is very real as she talks about her struggles, hardships, and failings as a wife and mother. She then goes on to explain how she overcame this dark time in her life. It’s not easy to share our imperfections and shortcomings, so her honesty was quite refreshing.

The book covers 9 different strategies for leading a more balanced, low stress life such as learning to say no, being intentional about saying yes, setting goals, being disciplined, being intentional about finances…. It’s nothing that hasn’t been said by Crystal or others before, but it’s presented in a logical, personal manner that makes it really hit home.

For me, the chapter on goal setting was something that I needed to hear at this point in my life. I like setting goals, but I had let myself slip into the day-to-day routine without setting true goals. After reading this chapter, I was motivated to get intentional about goal setting. Crystal breaks everything down on how to set goals in a variety of areas in your life which helped me really think things through even though I had a bunch of things going on in my life at the time.

Each chapter starts out with a stated goal and a strategy for achieving that goal. Crystal then gets personal with how this all played out in her life. She breaks down the goal into smaller goals and has journal areas within the chapter to do certain tasks. (Since I don’t like to write in books, I created a journal for writing down my thoughts.) The chapters include a little Q&A section where she answers questions from her readers related to the topic in the chapter. It then concludes with a practical application section.

The book includes several different forms to help with your journey to a life filled with less stress, more sleep, and more passion. The resource section provides more information on tools that will help you dig deeper into the topics covered in the book.

Once again, Crystal has put together a wonderful resource that is sure to be helpful to a wide group of individuals.
