Homeschool Review: Week Ending 2/7/14

Munchkin Working on School Work

It’s hard to believe that we’re getting ready to head into the second week of February. Where has time gone? This month has found us finishing up some homeschool subjects/curriculum while starting others.

Munchkin wrapped up her Analytical Grammar studies this week. She found that who and whom are not her friends, but otherwise did quite well with her final. We’ll be continuing to review grammar with the Analytical Grammar Review and Reinforcement book. We may use one of their High School Reinforcement books next year, but I haven’t decided yet.

She’s continuing with her Biblical Archaeology studies which she really enjoys. We’re looking forward to having a new teaching aid (review item) from Biblical Reproductions soon. Right now, I think this is one of her favorite classes as she gets really excited and has to tell me all about what she is learning once she’s done with her reading for the day.

A Horse Nutrition course from My Horse University through Michigan State University is the latest course in her equine studies. She’s looking forward to adding to her horse knowledge so we can better care for our horses.

Computer Work

She also started up with an online writing course through SOVERBOSE. This will be, for the most part, the first time that she’s being graded on her writing from someone other than me, so it should be a good learning experience. This week, she’s writing lots of paragraphs. The hard part – according to her – is thinking of material to write about in the paragraphs.

American Literature is probably her least favorite course right now as she’s not really enjoying a good number of the authors and materials being covered. They just aren’t her style. Plus, she’s not fond of the content.

Latin continues to be a class that is enjoyable, frustrating, and challenging all wrapped up in one. She’s still using a combination of Visual Latin and Lingua Latina. We had considered taking the Lingua Latina online class, but decided that she was currently taking enough online classes. We may reconsider this for next year.

Munchkin had taken a break from Geometry to go back and study Algebra II. Now that she’s wrapped up that course, she is now back to using Teaching Textbooks for Geometry. She just needed a break from using the online math learning.

Her Dave Raymond’s American History classes are going well even though she’s not a big fan on taking notes. (I like the fact that she needs to take notes as it’s a necessary skill.) She routinely shares tidbits from history that I had either forgotten or never learned.

I think that’s all of her current studies, but I may well be forgetting something right now. I don’t have my handy list right next to me. 😉

In addition to her studies, Munchkin has now started attending youth group on Wednesday nights. She’s also working on training Dixie (her horse). Having the horses home has made life much easier when it comes to spending time with them and training them. She continues to work on rewrites and edits for her second book.
