Getting Ready for Awana

Last Wednesday, our church held registration and orientation for the new year of Awana. We registered Munchkin and then the leaders talked to the parents. The leaders are really pumped about this year. They are expecting great things for the kids. I was impressed with their concern with the safety of the kids, and their desire to see the kids grow in Christ. Homeschool Fun

Thursday, our day started with some cool, refreshing fun. We had our first meeting with the newly formed homeschool group on base. We were pleased to see several familiar faces there as well as some new. We even reconnected with a friend that we had lost touch with several years ago. Gluten Free Cake Donuts

Ingredients: 2 C gluten free rice flour mix 1 tsp xanthan gum1 C sugar2 tsp baking powder1/2 tsp salt (mix together dry ingredients and set aside) 1 tsp vanilla extract1 Tbsp shortening, melted (or oil)3/4 C milk2 eggs (combine thoroughly) Directions: 1. Add dry ingredients into wet ingredients.2. Lightly spray donut trays with non-stick spray.3. Pour mixture into pans so they are about 3/4 filled4. Place in pre-heated 325 degree oven for 15 minutes (until toothpick comes out clean)5. Gluten Free Cinnamon Almond Waffles

These waffles use Sue Gregg’s Blender Waffle/Pancake batter as the base. Having most of the prep work done in the evening makes these waffles quick and easy in the morning. Ingredients: 1 Cup Brown Rice 1/2 Cup GF Oatmeal 1 3/4 Cup Buttermilk 2 Tbsp Olive Oil (or coconut oil) 1 tsp pure vanilla extract 1/2 tsp pure almond extract 1-2 tsp ground cinnamon 1/4 Cup almonds (optional) 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt 1 egg 2 Tbsp ground flax seeds Directions: In the evening: Place buttermilk, brown rice, oatmeal, olive/coconut oil, vanilla extract, almond…
