Homeschooling an Only

Posted in Christian Life, Homeschooling, and Photography

Project 365 – #039 You shall teach them [the commandments] diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. ~Deuteronomy 6:7~ Homeschooling an only child holds some unique challenges as well as a different degree of flexibility than homeschooling multiple children.  My observations are based upon our experiences, so they may not hold true for all families who are homeschooling an only. Curriculum Choices I often find myself looking differently at curriculum that larger families see as great buys. …

Tackling a New Homeschool Schedule

Posted in Family, Homeschooling, and Photography

Project 365: #032 D was cracking up when I started taking pictures at the airport – especially when he saw that I was taking pictures of the cabs.  I just thought they were much nicer looking cabs than you normally see driving around.  Yes, sometimes I can be a bit odd.  That tends to happen when you’re waiting for a delayed flight to arrive.  lol!  What does this have to do with today’s post?  Not much.  I just think it’s bright yellow color is rather cheery.  **grin** I didn’t end up getting as much done yesterday as I had originally…

Basket of Christmas Books

Posted in Holidays, and Homeschooling

Each year, I fill up a basket with all of our Christmas books.  Every day we read a different book from our collection until all of the books are gone.  When Munchkin was younger, I would wrap up the books and number them to use as a countdown to Christmas day.  Now, Munchkin just picks a book out of the basket. Do you have any favorite Christmas books? This post…

Staying Happily Busy

The holiday season is upon us.  For Munchkin and I that means that we set aside many of the normal schooling items and begin with the fun Christmas unit studies and activities.  It also means that we have started our Advent activities. Yesterday, Sunday, was the first day of Advent.  This year, we will be reading Bartholomew’s Passage in the evenings as a family.  On December 1st, we’ll start to add in different activities including our Advent calendar. Throughout the month of December, we’ll do various crafts and bake many goodies.  We’ll work on some handmade gifts for Christmas and…

Trip to Sea World Part 4

Posted in Family, Homeschooling, and Outdoor Adventures

I’m finally getting the last installment of the Sea World pictures up.  I’m sure I’ll have a few random animal pictures to share later, but for now, this wraps up the trip.  The final show that we saw was the Sea Lions Live show.  The stage looked like a television studio, and all of the show names were spoofs of real tv shows.  We cracked up at the crazy antics from the animals. After we finished up at the Sea Lions Live show, we headed over to the Arctic and saw some penguins and beluga whales. We thought the beluga…
