Learning TaeKwonDo

Posted in Family, Fitness, and Homeschooling

After a great deal of encouragement from Daddy, Munchkin started up with TaeKwonDo a couple of weeks ago. Daddy felt it was important that she learn the discipline that comes from studying the martial arts as well as learn some self-defense techniques. Munchkin wasn’t completely sure of this, and the idea of this brand new activity was a little daunting. Thankfully, much to Munchkin’s surprise, there are several other girls roughly her age taking the class with her. Her class is three days a week which is taking some getting use to as both Munchkin and I like to be…

Family Fitness: Slow and Steady

Posted in Family, and Fitness

Little did we know at this time last year that D would be going through two back surgeries in one year. I don’t think any of us really understood how much this would impact our lives. Yes, we knew there would be changes, but the extent of the changes weren’t really grasp until we were actually in the trenches going through the process. Now that we are finally through the worst of it (in theory), the rebuilding is beginning. D’s surgeon said that coming back from back surgery once is tough and twice is even harder for a “normal” person.…

New Year, New Me: Reflections

2011 was a difficult year for our family between D’s two back surgeries, the loss of family members and pets, and a few more things thrown in for good measure, but it was also a time of family bonding.  We found ourselves growing together, learning together.  We were given the special opportunity to spend some good quality time together.  Granted, for a good chunk of that time, D was in pain, but it was still a good time of bonding for all of us.  As a military family, we definitely don’t take for granted the time that we have together.…

Kick-Start Fitness Final Check-In

Posted in Family, and Fitness

It’s hard to believe that we’ve come to the end of our December Kick-Start Fitness challenge.  It’s been fun blogging through December with my fellow bloggers.  I’m heading into the New Year with the confidence that I ended the year on a good note when it comes to fitness.  I plan on carrying the momentum into the new year. As I noted last week, having a new dog who is use to walks has definitely helped me work at getting back into shape physically.  We’re continuing to have multiple walks per day.  Normally, I’m walking Wiley by myself, but sometimes…

Kick-Start Fitness Week 3: A New Routine

Posted in Family, and Fitness

Yesterday, I talked a little about a fresh look on life thanks to our crazy new dog.  I admit that I had forgotten some of the work that goes into owning a younger dog – especially a rescue dog.  We’ve quickly found that there are certain routines that he already has set in place, so we’re trying to keep some of these routines while establishing new ones. One of Wiley’s established routines is daily walks. Now, they said that he walks well on a leash, but we soon found that wasn’t exactly the complete truth.  He does walk on a…
