New Year Begins with Snow

Posted in Family, Homesteading, and Photography

Because we live in an area where snow is not a regular occurrence, we can happily welcome an unexpected storm that dumps way more snow than projected. We were all rather excited even if it did create a few issues as we weren’t prepared for that much wet snow and single digit temps. While both D and I grew up with snowy, cold winters, Munchkin hasn’t had a lot of snow to play in over the years. Our duty stations have been in places that get little to no snow each winter. Of course, the previous 5 winters have found…

Gluten Free Sugar Cookie Recipe

Posted in Gluten Free

I was in the mood for some sugar cookies, but I didn’t have all of my normal sugar cookie ingredients. I decided to wing it and started throwing things together. The result was a light, thin cookie that had a crisp exterior and chewy interior. The cookies were a big hit, and they disappeared very quickly. Back in October, you may remember that I had the opportunity to test out the Brieftons Spiral Slicer. It was a hand-held unit that was nice and small, but it had a good bit of waste like other spiral slicers with that particular design. Well, I recently was given the chance to test out the larger, more versatile Brieftons Tri-Blade Spiral Slicer. I have to admit that I wish this spiral slicer came in red as the green just doesn’t fit with my kitchen, but that’s just a personal preference. The unit itself is well thought out. I did run…

Canning with AYL® Silicone Gloves

Posted in Reviews

I really like my silicone oven mitts, but they don’t work as well for tasks that require me to grab something smaller. Right now, I’m doing a lot of canning, so I needed something that would allow me to safely turn the knobs on my pressure canner as well as grab jars, if necessary. Since my silicone oven mitts worked for the heat aspect (just not the small detail aspect), I knew that I wanted to test out some silicone gloves. I was happy to receive the AYL® silicone gloves to test out in my kitchen. The AYL® silicone gloves are heat resistant…
