Bring the Horses Home Part 3

Dixie and Phantom Resting

By the third night of being home, Phantom and Dixie had started to really settle into their new environment. In fact, Phantom laid down during the night while the coyotes were howling away, and the dogs were barking at the coyotes. Dixie was standing guard over him which was rather cute as you’d think it would be the other way around. lol!

Phantom Resting

On Tuesday morning, I looked outside and saw the two of them resting together enjoying the morning sun. Of course, I had to grab my camera to try to snap a few pictures.

Dixie Resting

It was very peaceful to watch them there completely at rest.

Dixie Looking for Munchkin

Of course, as soon as Dixie heard Munchkin coming out, she popped up looking for her.

Phantom

Later that day, we had an escapee horse when Phantom decided to slip out of the turn-out area and go for a run when Munchkin was bringing the wheel barrow through the turn-out gate. Both Munchkin and I were a bit frantic as he took off galloping to and fro. We lost sight of him and went on a search. Dixie kept calling out to him, so we hoped that would bring him back.

Thankfully, he did come back in time – completely covered in sweat. Dixie was very happy to have him back, and he was happy to be back with her. It was an exciting and exhausting way to spend the afternoon. It’s definitely an experience that we’d rather not repeat, but it had a good ending. Once again, it shows how much more work we have to do with him. Groundwork…. groundwork…. groundwork….
