Bring Our Horses Home Part 2

By the time we arrived home from the rescue, it was dark which was not the plan. We had hoped to get the horses settled while it was still light outside. Daddy and Munchkin walked the horses around and showed them around their new home. Thankfully, we had a bright moon to help light at least some of the area.

Dixie Eating

It was a long night as the horses were quite restless which made the dogs go crazy for most of the night. Needless to say, we were rather tired the next day. The new routine began as we got up to feed the horses and clean the stalls and turn-out area. The horses were still a bit restless, but they were starting to settle in enough that they were happily eating.

Phantom Looking Out

Daddy decided to take the day off from working on the stalls. He needed that day of rest. We just had some family time as well as time with the horses. We wanted to make them feel as comfortable as possible in their new home by spending lots of time with them.

Walking the Horses

Later in the day, Munchkin and Daddy took the horses for a walk. It turns out that Phantom does not like being away from Dixie, so he freaked out when Dixie and Munchkin got ahead where he couldn’t see them. We didn’t expect them to get so attached to each other so quickly as they were not together that often at the ranch. (We knew they got along well because when they were together they were content to eat together and be around each other.) After the walk, it was more apparent that 1) they were still quite jumpy due to the new location, and 2) we need to do more training with them.
