Remember as a child sticking your fingers in your ears and saying, “la..la..la.. I can’t hear you?” Well, this book is a take on that idea only it’s us – as adults – trying not to hear what the Lord is telling us.
In If I Plus My Ears, God Can’t Tell Me What To Do & Other Ways We Miss Out On God’s Adventures, Jessie Clemence takes on not only on her journey through learning to listen to the Lord’s leading but also the journey of others as they learn to seek out and listen to the Lord’s direction in their lives. It’s a personal story that really seeks to help others benefit from some of the things she has learned and continues to learn as she travels along the plan that the Lord has placed before her.
One of my favorite things about the book is Jessie’s gift for sharing her message in a manner that isn’t preachy. She talks about how it isn’t just about listening to the Lord but also about making sure the timing is right. She gives examples on how it’s easy to try to rush the Lord or drag our feet when we receive the calling. It’s not just about what the Lord tells us to do but also about how and when He tells us to do it.
I found myself nodding along with what she was saying more than once. It made me think about the lifelong journey and adventures we have when trying to serve the Lord. It’s not always easy and patience is often tested, but He knows what is best for us if we are only open to truly listening and understanding His direction for our lives.
